Recently we took a friend over to see Portofino, and were well rewarded for the effort when we came upon a young bride and groom having a photo-shoot at Chiesa San Giorgio, above the port.
Aren’t they adorable? That’s Castello Brown in the background. And no, we have no idea who this happy couple is. At first we just thought, ‘aw shucks, how sweet…’ Then we got a closer look at the groom and noticed his unusual footwear:
Hey! Those are blue high tops! What an improvement over tight shiny leather when you have to be on your feet and feeling your best for the afternoon and evening. But best of all was when we realized that the bride went to the same shoemaker:
I don’t know which I like better, the blue or the yellow. I think maybe the yellow. The bigger question, though, is this: is this the new Wedding Style for the year ahead? Will all brides and grooms be cantering down the aisle in athletic footwear? Not a bad idea, now that I think of it, very handy when they try to escape from all those people who are throwing things at them after the ceremony. And oh! how comfortable!
I knew that it was a terrific idea to wear rubber slippers for my wedding!
This is really too cute and funny and you were able to snap pics! Now is she had been wearing, say…Manolo Blahniks, I’d have wondered how the bride managed to traverse those cobbled steps.
Rubber slippers – best of all. I’m always going to vote for comfort… I don’t know how the high-heeled ladies here negotiate the cobbles, but they seem to, and you don’t see too many of them in casts. They have incredible calf muscles; must be from basically tip-toeing everywhere.
I vote for the yellow!
Me, too!
That was my thought. Perhaps they just changed into them for the photos on the streeet.
I think you’re right – I later found out the flowers were ‘finto’ – the bride gave the plastic bouquet to some American ladies who were having tea at a sidewalk cafe… Still, you have to admire the humor.
Aha! Apparently even in Italy the wedding fashion world is still chained to the strapless wedding dress, although I must say it is most becoming on this delicious little pastry of a bride. Considering the weddings for which I have provided music over the past three years or so (and that would be 35+) I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of brides who have worn a gown other than strapless, be it appropriate for them or not. Perhaps this adorable footwear will strike a blow for more originality in wedding couture!
Strapless looks lovely on this bride, but I agree with you: there are many it does not suit. I shouldn’t think it would be very comfortable, either – don’t quite see the appeal of it myself. Covered up with little peeks at skin has always been much sexier than a flat out naked – ask the artists who work from nude models…
Converse! How cute! I’m surprised that they opted for sneakers in the country of leather shoes, but it’s charming!
We thought it was pretty adorable… I wonder if they wore them for the actual ceremony??
