On the beautiful walk from Nozarego, above Santa Margherita, to Portofino we came upon this very confusing place. The top sign says “DANGER – Rockfall – It is prohibited for both people and vehicles to stop.” The one beneath it says “It is severely prohibited to carry off material of any sort.” Then they, whomever they are, thoughtfully provided benches and, farther along the path, a pull-out for vehicles which also offers a splendid view.
How can one NOT stop to take it all in? I think my head is going to explode.

We are seeing spectacularly beautiful sites in Sicily. We can’t agree more about the confusing signs…..we’ve seen ones that say Palermo ahead and to the right, no other help..also the signs that say a town is ahead have an arrow going left..with a stone all on the left. We learned that road sign quickly.
In a way the multiple direction signs to the same place make sense because there frequently is more than one way to reach that place. What would be really helpful would be if the sign for one direction said “Palermo – 5 km on a good road” and the other said, “Palermo – 15 km on a donkey track”. Once you learn the color-coding of the different road types it helps – Autostrada, green; state highway, blue. Places within cities, white; Places of touristic interest, brown. And so forth. We envy your Sicily visit!
Fabulous photo! You put me right there.
We took that walk, didn’t we?
Falling rocks and resultant signs post-dated the construction of the walk, I’d guess.
